What do you know about Greenselect Phytosome?

Today, I want to talk about a very unique form of Green Tea extract called Greenselect Phytosome which is also found in our RVL supplement but before I do, did you know Tea is second only to water as the most popular beverage in the world!

In a human clinical trial, Greenselect Phytosome was tested in obese subjects (n=100) of both genders on a low-caloric diet; 50 subjects were assigned to the green tea extract plus the low-calorie diet, while the other 50 subjects followed the low-calorie diet only. After 90 days of treatment, significantly greater improvement in weight and body mass index was observed in the Greenselect Phytosome group compared to the diet-only group.*

Human studies of green tea's weight management properties resulted in greater calorie burning by individuals taking the extract and at the end of the treatment, the subjects treated with Greenselect Phytosome had a significantly lower LDL cholesterol level, while the Total Antioxidant Activity (TAA) was significantly increased compared to control subjects.

Besides the weight management benefits of Greenselect Phytosome, this particular form of green tea extract is a powerful antioxidant especially in the Catechin family. Catechins may aid weight loss in two ways. They inhibit the breakdown of fats, and they inhibit the production of an inflammatory agent in the body that triggers hunger.

Did you take your RVL supplement today inbetween your meals? I did!

Fruit and Vegetable intake related to longevity

LOTS of studies provide evidence that physical
activity and fruit and vegetable intake are independently
and jointly related to longevity.

It is estimated that less than 5% of the US population eat the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

Fruit and vegetable intake as indicated by total serum
carotenoids and physical activity have been identified
as strong predictors of survival in older adults. Individuals aged 65 and older are now the fasting-growing segment of the population.

Did you know that our juices, as re-formulation number 10, have been infused, using a proprietary nano-technology, with three critically important carotenoids: Beta-Carotene, Lutein, and Lycopene.

The combination of low total serum carotenoids
and low physical activity, both modifiable risk
factors, may predict earlier mortality.

Have you heard of Oliginol?

Have you heard of Oliginol? Have you struggled with visceral (abdominal) or (fat that surrounds in inner organs)? Do you know much about a proprietary extract from the Lychee fruit?

Oliginol is an proprietary extract derived from the Lychee fruit. Oliginol is found in MonaVie's RVL supplement. The science on Oliginol is quite strong and I wanted to share one of those studies with you.

Researchers recruited 18 adult volunteers that had a waist circumference exceeding 85 cm. The subjects were between 24 and 59 years of age. Volunteers were randomly divided into two groups. One of the groups received a daily Oligonol dose of 50 milligrams. The other group received a placebo.

After 10 weeks of study:

Those in the Oligonol group lost about three centimetres in their waist size.
This same group experienced a 6 percent reduction in subcutaneous fat area.
Oligonol group participants also reported a 15 percent reduction in abdominal (visceral) fat.
Insulin resistance improved in the Oligonol group with increases in blood levels of adiponectin, a hormone that regulates a variety of metabolic processes, compared to the placebo group.

Remember, take your RVL supplement in between your meals with a RVL bar of your choice.

What do you know about African Bush Mango?

What do you know about the African Bush Mango? There are three critically important ingredients in our RVL weight management dietary supplement and so for this post, I want to focus on the African Bush Mango extract known as "IGOB131."

What is African Bush Mango?
African Mango is a West African fruit that is commonly used for cooking in Nigeria and Cameroon. IGOB131 is an extract from the seed of the AB mango fruit.

How effective is African Bush Mango
Bush-mango extract contributes to weight loss in four major areas. First, it raises the level of adiponectin in the blood, which improves the action of insulin in the body. Secondly, it reduces the level of glycerol-3-phospate, which is responsible for high triglyceride levels. Your body stores some triglycerides as fat, while other excess triglycerides thicken the blood, which can lead to clotting, blockage and possibly heart attack and stroke.

Thirdly, bush-mango extract reduces the blood concentration of c-reactive proteins. The result of this action is increased leptin entry into the brain, which improves the feedback signaling you when you are full and should stop eating. Lastly, bush mango inhibits the amylase responsible for converting starch to sugar. By stopping this conversion, starch is excreted instead of contributing to the body's fat store after turning to sugar.

The science of African Bush Mango is extremely solid. There are multiple human clinical trials and in just about every human study, those individuals who had ICOB131 versus placebo lost more weight and higher percentages of body fat.

When do I take my RVL Supplement?

Take one to two capsules in between meals twice a day. Be consistent. Do not miss any days and watch your own positive personal results.  -Jeff Graham

Have an awesome night,

Brainy Berries

A recent study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistrysuggests that açai pulp is effective in protecting brain cells (neurons), and possibly in improving mental function. The study (click here to read), entitled “Anthocyanin-rich açai (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) fruit pulp fractions attenuate inflammatory stress signaling in mouse brain BV-2 microglial cells,” was conducted by researchers at Tufts University (Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging) and the USDA (Agricultural Research Service).
A growing body of scientific research and clinical results have shown a link between consumption of flavonoids, which are rich in berries, and various chronic health conditions such as stress, inflammation, neurological problems, and premature aging. Earlier studies (click here to read) have shown that consuming more flavonoid-rich berries can reduce cognitive decline in elderly subjects. A recent study published in the Annals of Neurology suggested brain aging is reduced up to 2.5 years in elderly who consume more flavonoid-rich berries. In the study, researchers from Harvard Medical School looked at data from over 120,000 Registered Nurses in the nearly 40-year long Nurses Health Study. Findings show that a greater intake of berry flavonoids slowed cognitive decline as well as delayed cognitive aging.
Scientists believe that many of the adverse effects of aging are caused by the “metabolic stress” of oxidative and inflammatory damage—but can be reduced, and in some cases reversed, by a diet high in flavonoids. In another recent study, researchers found that berries can enhance beneficial neurological signaling in the brain. The study (click here to read) outlined many of the general “protective” antioxidant effects of berry flavonoids, but also focused on many of the novel direct effects of these compounds on actively preventing age-related neurodegeneration and improving cognitive function. The publication reviewed the wide variety of studies showing how berry flavonoids help to mediate signaling pathways involved in inflammation and cell survival, in addition to enhancing complex brain-building processes such as neuroplasticity. The authors noted that berry-derived flavonoids are uniquely able to both cross the blood-brain-barrier as well as concentrate in brain regions involved in learning and memory (such as the hippocampus, which is particularly susceptible to stress-induced memory problems).
We have know for decades that age-related diseases of the brain compromise memory, learning, and movement and are directly linked with increases in oxidative stress and inflammation. The last few years of research have shown us that increasing our consumption of flavonoid-rich foods, such as berries, can improve physical and mental functioning as well as quality-of-life parameters as we age. These most recent studies are further expanding our understanding of the precise biochemical mechanisms by which flavonoid-rich foods can directly modulate signaling in brain cells and both prevent damage and improve function.
What this means for each of us is that consuming our berries, whether as fresh fruit or as any of our MonaVie Juices, is a “brainy” daily ritual that holds both immediate and long-term health benefits.

About the Author: Dr. Shawn Talbott is MonaVie’s VP of Research & Development. Before writing this article, he ate a handful of blueberries and drank 2 ounces of MonaVie Mx.
These studies are based on the effects of açai in animal and clinical settings and do not necessarily reflect benefits of MonaVie.

The Truth about ORAC Scores (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity)

Im sure most of you have heard of the term: ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity).

ORAC assays measure the ability of an isolated nutrient to slow the degeneration of a synthetic fluorescent molecule in a test tube - essentially, ONE free radical - it has no bearing whatsoever on the actual antioxidant benefits of the nutrient in a living system.

Our bodies are not test tubes. Our bodies do not react the same way a compound reacts in a test tube. What we know about antioxidants is this; MORE are not necessarily BETTER.

So, what can most scientists agree on with respect to antioxidants?

It is important to get a wide variety of different types of antioxidants in the diet because different antioxidants counteract damage by different types of free radicals - and within different cellular compartments. Think: “Antioxidant Network” - that network being made up of 5 major classes of antioxidants: Vitamin E (family), Vitamin C (family), Carotenoids, Bioflavonoids, and Thiols - and your cells need representatives from each and every one of these categories in order to mount the strongest antioxidant defense.

My point: Forget ORAC! If anyone pitches you on ORAC - walk away. Variety is the key to antioxidant health and that variety happens to be found in MonaVie's portfolio of products especailly, our juices.
